Painted Drawers for Craft Shelving

Hello Everyone! I’m very excited about revealing my biggest craft so far. It took me a lot of time getting it done and I looooove how it turned out. My workstation looks so nice now with this Painted Drawers for Craft Shelving.

I found these drawers a while ago next to a trash bin on the street and I really couldn’t help taking them, I would have taken more but I was alone with Emma so I took all I could carry on her stroller LOL.

I wondered for a while what to do with them, I even asked on Instagram and Facebook for some ideas and all of them were awesome, so I went for the shelving idea, I had seen many ways to use drawers on Pinterest but I wanted to add a twist and I did.

Here is what I did

I used 2 of the drawers and bought spray paint in 3 colors: white, light violet and lime. I prepared my balcony {the only place I had to spray} with rubbish bags and cardboards. Then I started spraying the white paint all over both drawers. That helps the other colors to cover easier the surface. After a couple of coats I started spraying with violet and the lime.

This step took many coats of paint. Usually I sprayed one coat per day because of Emma, I did it during her naps LOL. Some times I skipped a couple of days.
When they were ready I cleaned them well and decorated them with scrapbook paper the bottom of the drawers. I used white glue juts the way  you would use mod podge.
First spread the thinned glue {50/50} all over the bottom surface and placed the paper. At the end I spread another coat of glue to seal the paper. I coordinated the colors and patterns. On the violet drawer I used lime chevron pattern and on the lime one I used Violet paper with polka dots pink/lime/violet/blue.
Of course the same process applied for the other drawer but I had an almost fail there LOL!
Thankfully I could fix it!!!
I decided that I didn’t want them one straight on top or next to the other, so, I did put one on top of the other but off center. I slid the top one to the right a few inches and left a mark.
In those spaces left {after sliding the drawer} I glued scrapbook paper as well. Even where is not suppose to be seen.
When they were dry I put them in the position I wanted the and put some nails to attach them.
They were pretty much done but I wanted to be able to use all the space in the back so I put some hooks to hang some tools.
And now it’s done LOL! Tadaaaaaa!
I love it!

Neat! I’ve made shelves from wood drawers before and really like how they come out. Yours look so colorful and creative! You can even put a board halfway up the drawer and have another little bit of display space.

Leave me your lovely thoughts!
